A life to remember
Integrity, Intelligence, Humour
Gerry showed his intelligence at a young age, skipping grade 3. He valued integrity and honesty above all and always kept his word and always did the right thing. Timing is everything, and he had a knack for diffusing a difficult situation with a dry sense of humour or surprising silliness.
Family Man
Providing for his family was his number one responsibility. He was generous with his time and giving us almost everything we wanted.
Gerry was always there patiently waiting, listening and sharing stories and making sure we did our taxes and bought RRSPs. He was proud of all of us and our unique lives.
Business Leader
The ability to take a large amount of data, analyze it to develop a strategy and simply explain it to all levels of the business to enable progress and ensure corporate integrity was his greatest contribution according to the people with whom he worked.
Over his 30 years at Interfor he was part of the team that changed it from a regional lumber company, Whonnock Industries to the international leader in forestry products that it is today. Once retired, he brought that same passion and dedication to the MCC where has been a key leader in setting up and developing the MCC Legacy Trust to be a sustainable, long term source of funds to support the programs of the MCC.
Fun
A quick wit and deadpan delivery made Gerry’s humour unforgettable.
Photography was a passion of Gerry’s starting when he was assigned to the Sporting Goods and Camera department at Woodwards. The technical side of creating portraits appealed to his brain and the beauty of the outdoors engaged his creative mind and was the focus in later years.
Gerry loved to be warm. A holiday in Mexico with family or friends was critical in the cold, wet winters of the West Coast.
